Police arrest involved in bank branch explosions in Rio de Janeiro

THE Federal police (PF) arrested two men accused of robbing cash transport companies and ATMs in Rio de Janeiro on Monday (26).

The operation was carried out in conjunction with the Civil and Federal Highway Police.

A 20-year-old man was arrested in Copacabana, in the South Zone, and a 33-year-old man in Ilha do Governador, in the North Zone. In both cases, there were arrest warrants for major theft, issued by the 2nd Criminal Court of Bangu.

According to investigations, the older man would be involved with the criminal organization that caused a series of explosions in bank branches, with the use of rifles and cars, in the style of the so-called new cangaço.

The gang carried out actions in the neighborhoods of Vila Isabel and Taquara, in the capital of Rio de Janeiro, and in the municipalities of Niterói, São Gonçalo and São João de Meriti, and the investigated would have actively participated in at least three attacks carried out by the criminals.
