The Minas Gerais Civil Police reported last Wednesday (14) that arrested a 59-year-old man-who did not have his identity disclosed-that he is suspected of committing qualified thefts in churches and schools in the state’s cities.
The police action that culminated in the arrest of the investigated occurred in the municipality of Sabará, in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte, on May 6. Preventive arrest warrants and search and seizure were served.
One of the thefts took place on December 10, 2024 in an evangelical church. According to the police report, the man broke into three doors to invade the religious temple and took various goods, such as notebooks, sound devices, cell phones and musical instruments. The estimated loss exceeds R $ 30 thousand.
Safety cameras images assisted in the investigation. The images captured the moment the suspect arrives alone in a car, with the plate covered by a cloth. He cuts the electricity of the church before performing theft.
“From the analysis of the images, the car’s license plate – registered in the name of the investigated partner – and comparison with photos available in the police system, we were able to confirm the identity of the suspect, who has an extensive criminal record for similar to theft against churches and schools, from the north of Minas to the capital,” said delegate Gabriella Maris Mello Pereira.
According to the investigations, the suspect always worked at dawn, using the same vehicle to commit theft in closed institutions. “The police team still investigates its possible connection with other similar crimes registered in the region and in inland cities, especially in northern Minas Gerais, where it is natural.”
The individual’s cell phone was seized and sent to technical expertise. Police seek to identify others involved in the crimes and possible receivers of the stolen objects. To date, the suspect’s companion, owner of the vehicle used, is not considered an accomplice of the crimes.
