Police arrest “serial killer” of dogs and cats in the interior of SP

A man suspected of being a ‘serial killer’ of dogs and cats was arrested this Friday, 20th, in Itapetininga, in the interior of São Paulo. The suspect, whose name was not released, may have caused the death of at least 50 animals through poisoning, beatings, mutilations and other types of painful deaths, according to the Civil Police. He used social media to adopt the dogs and cats that would be victims.

The case began to be investigated by the Animal Protection Sector (Sepa) of the Civil Police, after receiving complaints. The investigation found that the suspect used social media to ask for animals as donations and also captured dogs and cats loose on the streets of the Vila Célia neighborhood, where he lived.

Then, according to what was discovered, the animals were subjected to mistreatment that led to serial deaths. The violence, according to the police, was carried out using torture and cruelty.

The bodies of dogs and cats were found buried or abandoned in places close to the investigator’s residence, in the neighboring property, in an abandoned stable and in the lake of a condominium in the neighborhood.

In addition to ordering the arrest, the Court authorized a search of his residence and the breaking of the suspect’s telephone and telematic confidentiality to allow further investigations. During the searches, electronic devices and poison were seized that may have been used in the crimes.

According to the Civil Police, one of the cases that caught their attention was the rescue of a dog with broken paws. She died days after suffering the attacks. In another case, which occurred in April this year, a puppy was found gagged and with its paws tied. In a statement, the police said that both cases occurred in locations that indicate direct proximity to the person being investigated.

The report was unable to contact the arrested man’s defense.
