Police arrest suspect involved in PCC plan to kill Sergio Moro

The Military Police of São Paulo arrested, on Tuesday night (26), a member of the First Command of the Capital (PCC) suspected of involvement in the plan to kidnap and kill senator Sergio Moro (União Brasil-PR), discovered in March 2023.

The suspect, aged 42, would be a member of the faction’s “restricted” cell, considered one of the most violent in the group. The arrest was made by agents from Rondas Ostensivas Tobias de Aguiar (Rota) in Itanhaém, on the coast of São Paulo.

According to the Public Security Secretariat (SSP), the man was hiding in a farm in the region. A false document and a weapon with a scratched number were seized from him.

According to the PM, he would have participated in the possible plan to kidnap the senator, with a relevant role in gathering information about Moro’s routine in Paraná.

The suspect was considered a fugitive from justice. He has criminal records for homicide, receiving, gang formation, robbery and possession of a firearm.

The man is also identified as one of the members of another criminal’s gang, arrested in March 2023 by the Federal Police for his involvement in planning the crime. This other criminal, who was imprisoned in Penitentiary II of Presidente Venceslau, in the interior of São Paulo, was killed in June this year.

Remember the case

A plan by the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) to carry out attacks against public servants and authorities, including homicides and kidnapping with extortion, was dismantled by the Federal Police (PF) in March 2023. Former judge and current senator Sergio Moro (União Brazil-PR) was one of the targets.

When Minister of Justice, Moro was responsible for transferring criminal faction leaders to federal penitentiaries. The PF investigation points out that the PCC had scouts to monitor the former judge’s house, in addition to his wife, federal deputy Rosângela Moro (União Brasil-SP), and children.

According to authorities, at least ten criminals took turns monitoring, which would also take place on trips outside the state. For this purpose, farms, houses and even an office were rented next to the senator’s addresses.

Prosecutor Lincoln Gakiya, who has been investigating the faction since the early 2000s, was another target of the group. He became aware of the plan and informed the Federal Police leadership in Brasília, who appointed a delegate to open an investigation.

According to the PF, the criminal organization operated in São Paulo, Paraná, Rondônia, Mato Grosso do Sul and the Federal District. According to investigations, the attacks could occur simultaneously in these five regions.
