A 32-year-old Venezuelan man was arrested preventively on Tuesday (14) in Canoas, in the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre, on suspicion of raping his cousin’s daughter. The case is investigated by the Child and Adolescent Protection Police Station (DPCA) of the municipality.
According to police, the suspect arrived in Brazil in 2023, claiming to be a former policeman in Venezuela and requesting refuge in the country. Months later, by the end of 2024, her cousin and her daughter came from Venezuela and started sharing the house with him.
The man would have helped his cousin get a job in the same place where he already worked. As they worked on different shifts, he offered to take care of the child while his mother was out. According to the investigators, it was during these periods that the abuse would have occurred.
Police say the child began to present behaviors typical of sexual violence, which aroused his mother’s concern. She sought help and denounced the case.
During the investigation, the police located a publication made by the victim on a social network. It was an animated video, produced by itself, in which a male figure appears-identified as the “uncle”-asking the child to go to the room. Following, the girl appears huddled in a bed, with expression of sadness. The animation also brings the phrase “Pleans that in Te Lastime”, which means, in free translation: “Be happy that I didn’t even hurt you”.
The man was arrested and sent to the prison system. The investigation is still underway, as there is evidence that he may have committed another similar abuse in Brazil. In addition, the Civil Police check for an arrest warrant against him in Venezuela, where he is also suspected of sexual crimes involving two children.
The Federal Police and the Venezuela Embassy in Brazil were notified to take appropriate measures regarding the permanence of foreigners in the country.
