The Civil Police of Pernambuco began the hearings of the investigation into the partial collapse of the roof of the Santuário da Conceição, in the northern zone of Recife. The incident, which left two people dead and another 28 injured, occurred last Friday (30).
After the police investigation was opened, coordinated by the Vasco da Gama police station, an expert from the Criminalistics Institute returned to the scene to continue with the investigations.
According to the Civil Police, the deadline for completing the report is 30 days, which may be extended for the same period. Now, the expert will return to the Santuário da Conceição to continue the investigation after removing the debris.
Removal of debris
Since last Saturday (31), teams from Recife’s Civil Defense have started removing debris from the roof, work that should continue over the next few days.
In order to maintain the activities of the Morro da Conceição sanctuary, Recife City Hall began assembling a temporary structure on Saturday in front of the sacred space. The structure allows for masses and celebrations to be held and has a stage, lighting and sound.
Health status of survivors
The Pernambuco State Health Department reported on Sunday that, of the 25 people treated at state health units, 18 were discharged, two signed terms for their discharge to be authorized and five remain receiving care at the Getúlio Vargas, Santo Amaro and Memorial Jaboatão hospitals.
The patients being treated at Hospital Getúlio Vargas, two women aged 80 and 43, were assessed by the unit’s multidisciplinary team and remain under outpatient observation for treatment of fractures.
The patient admitted to Memorial Jaboatão Hospital, a 49-year-old woman, is conscious and stable. She will undergo ankle surgery in the coming days.
The patients at the Santo Amaro hospital, two women aged 51 and 66, both have fractures and are scheduled for surgery this Monday (2).
