Police carry out operation against illegal ammunition purchase scheme in Rio

This Wednesday (18), the Civil Police carry out “Operation Cold Bullet”, which aims to execute search and seizure warrants against a man being investigated for illegally acquiring ammunition. The action is carried out by agents from the Specialized Weapons, Ammunition and Explosives Police Station (Disarmament).

So far, agents have seized a rifle, a shotgun, four pistols and a large quantity of ammunition and magazines, as well as gunpowder, which would be used for reloading. The operation takes place at addresses in the neighborhoods of Brás de Pina, Pavuna and Cordovil, in the North Zone of Rio.

The investigation began after intelligence work by the specialized police station, which identified the illegal purchase of restricted-use ammunition.

During the investigation, the police found that the individual had Registration (CR) and Collector, Shooter and Hunter (CAC) certificates.

According to a survey by the Civil Police, between 2023 and 2024, the person under investigation acquired around R$115,000 worth of ammunition, an amount incompatible with the declared income and without any justification or proven legal purpose.

Most of the ammunition acquired was 5.56 caliber, which was for restricted use.
