Police carry out operation against supermarket owners who evaded R$69 million

The Civil Police of the Federal District (PCDF) carried out this Thursday (5) an operation against the owners of a supermarket in Brasília accused of leading a tax evasion scheme that exceeds R$69 million.

During the action, 11 search and seizure warrants were executed in regions of Brasília and also in Porto Seguro (BA).

According to investigations, the suspects, members of the same family, used “scams” and false identities to present themselves as partners in the supermarkets, hiding the real owners and embezzling taxes.

The scheme involved replacing CNPJs as soon as tax debts reached high values, allowing businesses to continue operating without paying taxes. The practice had been occurring since 2014 and resulted in an accumulated debt of R$69.7 million.

To recover part of the misappropriated amounts and decapitalize the group, the Court ordered the kidnapping of approximately R$68 million, in addition to the blocking of 52 vehicles, three vessels and 48 properties, including a hotel in Porto Seguro and the supermarket itself being investigated.
