The Rio Grande do Norte Civil Police confirmed on Monday (5) that the acai consumed by a woman and an 8 -month -old baby in Natal was poisoned . The child died after drinking the food, and the 50 -year -old woman had to be hospitalized.
According to the corporation, an expert report from the Technical-Scientific Institute of Expertise (ITEP) pointed to the presence of a toxic substance in the product collected at the victims’ residence. The case is being investigated by the Homicide and Personnel Protection Division (DHPP).
The food would have been sent as a gift to one of the victims, and the police now investigate who would have been responsible for the poisoning. Witnesses have already been heard and new subpoenas are underway.
So far, the Civil Police have not disclosed details about the substance found in food or possible suspects.
Case
As determined by CNN the crime would have occurred between April 14 and 15, 2024. At the time, the Christmas Department of Natal, reported that the child arrived at the Esperancy Care Unit (UPA) Hope at the beginning of the week with a cardiac arrest.
The unit team performed all the assistance maneuvers and, due to the serious condition it was in, an Advanced Support Unit (USA) was triggered to transfer to an ICU bed, but still inside the ambulance, the child had a new cardiac arrest and could not resist.
The next day, the child’s aunt entered the service, presenting serious condition. According to the folder, all the necessary calls were provided by the team, which until then was unaware of the suspected poisoning.
“The patient was stabilized and a transfer to a ICU bed was requested, and the patient was regulated to the Alfredo Mesquita Regional Hospital in MacaÃba, in the Great Christmas,” adds the secretary.
