Police defense says allegations of businessman killed at airport are “speculation”

The defense of two civil police officers dismissed by the Internal Affairs Department for being mentioned in the statement of businessman Antônio Vinícius Lopes Gritzbach, shot dead at Guarulhos airport (SP) last Friday (8), stated in a note that Vinícius’ statements are “ speculations and fallacies.”

In a statement, the lawyers for the police chief, Dr. Fábio Baena Martin, and the investigator Eduardo Monteiro, “clarify, due to recently published articles, that the lies propagated by a criminal whistleblower have already been the subject of a broad investigation conducted by the Police Internal Affairs Civil and, archived, at the request of the Public Prosecutor’s Office itself, which was ratified and confirmed in an appeal assessed by the Attorney General’s Office”.

In another part, the defense says that “the speculations and fallacies propagated by the whistleblower Antônio Vinicius Gritzbach, made with the intention of trying to tarnish the thorough investigation that proved his participation in the homicide/criminal organization, repeated in new hearings do not have the power to modify the res judicata and the understanding of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

“Walking Dead”

Businessman Antônio Vinícius Gritzbach, linked to the First Command of the Capital (PCC), and who was on death row, stated during negotiations to approve a plea bargain with the Public Prosecutor’s Office that he would be a “living dead man”, if the body did not provide more security “protection” for him, as shown in a video obtained by CNN .

“The only thing I need, more and more, is more security. I need support from you too (..) otherwise you are talking to an undead here today” said Gritzbach

Link with the PCC

According to the investigation of the CNN Gritzbach became the target of threats after the death of two members of the PCC: Anselmo Becheli Santa Fausta, aka “Cara Preta”, and Antônio Corona Neto, aka “Sem Sangue”, in December 2021. Gritzbach would have been sworn to death by the PCC for the murders.

The businessman — who worked in the real estate industry — met “Cara Preta” in mid-2018 and began making investments for him.

Sources linked to the investigations reveal that million-dollar transactions were made with money of dubious origin. Over time, however, “Cara Preta”, who was responsible for the movement of million-dollar amounts, began to suspect embezzlement and began an escalation of charges, demanding that Gritzbach “account for the profits obtained”, according to investigation documents.

As suspicions intensified, “Cara Preta” became convinced that he was being deceived and demanded the full return of the amounts. As he was unable to return it, Gritzbach allegedly ordered the death of the influential member of the criminal organization, according to a Civil Police investigation.

Investigation and removals

The São Paulo Public Security Secretariat (SSP-SP) reported that witnesses and those involved in the episode have already been interviewed. Five military police officers who provided security for Gritzbach were dismissed. In addition to them, other police officers who are also under investigation in a Military Police Inquiry, which has been under judicial secrecy for approximately a month, were also removed.

At the same time, the Civil Police opened a preliminary investigation to investigate allegations of corruption against four civil police officers mentioned in Gritzbach’s plea bargain. They have also been removed from operational activities while the allegations are investigated.

The Homicide Department (DHPP), of the São Paulo Civil Police, is investigating the hypothesis of file burning, which could have come from any of the businessman’s enemies, as the motivation for the crime.
