A scheme of electronic fraud against the elderly was disjointed by the Federal District Civil Police (PCDF). According to the investigations, a highly articulated criminal structure, divided into acting nuclei, responsible for performing blows known as the “false service center”. Five people were arrested in Planaltina (DF), Mairiporã (SP), Sao Paulo (SP) and São Vicente (SP) and electronic equipment, documents and storage media were collected.
The victims were deceived through message applications and criminals presented themselves as representatives of bank institutions or police authorities to obtain confidential data and access to bank accounts.
Members used documents and telephone lines registered on behalf of third parties, manipulating public servants’ images to give veracity to approaches and applied continuous psychological coercion methods to isolate victims of any external support.
By gaining the confidence of the victims, they induced the delivery of cards, cell phones and sensitive data, which were then used for the realization of heritage crimes. Several elderly victims were identified in a situation of emotional and digital vulnerability. The findings indicate that the scheme stole more than $ 1 million.
