Police dismantle gang that stole 6 million kilos of soy and corn in MT

THE Civil police served 26 judicial warrants for preventive and temporary arrest, search and seizure and seizure of assets and real estate, in the municipalities of Nova Mutum, Sinop and Cuiabá, in Mato Grosso. The action against members of a criminal organization involved in the theft and diversion of grain in Mato Grosso and other states in Brazil took place on Monday (26).

All the warrants for the Safra 2 operation were issued by the 2nd Criminal Court of Sorriso, according to information provided by the Mato Grosso police this Tuesday (27).

The investigations showed that the criminal organization, which stole loads of soy and corn, caused a loss of around R$ 16 million to several carriers and insurance companies in the agribusiness sector. The targets of the operation were truck drivers and members of the criminal group, who had defined roles, such as leaders, recruiters, receivers, counterfeiters and financiers of crimes and also had five grain transporters and processing companies.

According to the police, the criminal organization worked by enticing truck drivers before loading the cargo. When they started to transport the grains, the drivers followed different routes of delivery and diverted the cargo to the companies involved, which were located in Nova Mutum and Cuiabá.

According to delegate Gustavo Belão, who is in charge of the investigations, after the cargo was delivered to the criminals at the receiving company, the drivers received about R$ 25 thousand for each diverted cargo, plus a fake kit, where the name was informed. of the injured company, which was unloaded at the final destination.

Companies discovered that soy and corn were not delivered only after seeking contact with the ports where the cargoes should be. Also according to the investigations, in about a year, 152 cargoes were diverted, which means six million kilograms of soybeans and corn.

Operation Safra 2 investigates the participation of 79 people involved in crimes of criminal association, qualified theft, qualified reception, forgery of documents and use of false documents. The operation is a dismemberment of Crop 1 that took place in 2021. Deputy Vitor Hugo, from the Organized Crime Combat Group, highlights that the action seeks to interrupt the gang’s activity and restore public order and security in the area of ​​agribusiness in the state. .
