Police free 5 Brazilian women who were sexually exploited in Spain

Five Brazilian women were released after being victims of sexual exploitation in Spain. Six people were arrested on suspicion of participating in the prostitution and sexual exploitation network.

The women were released in Almoradí, around 440 kilometers from Madrid. The operation was carried out by the Spanish National Police and the Brazilian Federal Police, who released the information last Wednesday (18).

They went to the European country with the promise that they would work as cleaners and cleaning professionals, according to Spanish police. But, upon arriving in Spain, they were forced to prostitute themselves to pay off the debt they had created when traveling.

The victims were monitored 24 hours a day by a security camera circuit, according to Spanish police. They could not refuse customers and had to pay, in addition to the debt, for rent, food and water.

The prostitution scheme would still take advantage of the victims’ beliefs. According to the National Police, the organization responsible for the scheme abused beliefs to “through rituals, altars and offerings, obtain loyalty”. No further details were provided on this point.
