Police identifies 158 victims of sexual predator in RS

The Rio Grande do Sul Civil Police have already identified 158 victims of a suspect of committing hundreds of sexual crimes against children and adolescents in different states of the country. The man was identified as Ramiro Gonzaga Barros, 36.

The number of victims, according to Delegate Valeriano Garcia Neto, will increase. “The investigation team works at this time examining the expert report of the General Institute of Expertise in order to identify and bring to the Civil Police these victims, to make their report in the intention of adequate liability for Ramiro Gonzaga,” said the delegate.

In the report, the IGP pointed to 750 folders on the suspect’s electronic devices, “with names, parts of names, nicknames, social network profile name.” Still, the delegate states that “for each victim, for each crime committed, a police inquiry is being established.”

The suspect was arrested on January 21, 2025 for child pornography storage. The children were between 9 and 13 at the time of abuse. According to delegate Garcia, the crimes were committed for at least 16 years.

The court granted, last Tuesday (29), a new request for custody against the man, this time for rape.

There are victims identified in several states, such as Santa Catarina, Paraná, Acre and Mato Grosso. Police also point out that many of the children had serious psychological consequences, such as depression, suicidal thoughts, self -mutilation, panic, school difficulty and sudden behavioral changes.

Investigations continue and should deepen the identification of new victims and possible interstate connections of crimes.
