Two Saudi sisters found dead in their apartment in Sydney, Australia, in “unusual” circumstances last month were identified by police, as authorities sought more information.
Police discovered the bodies of Asra Abdullah Alsehli, 24, and Amaal Abdullah Alsehli, 23, on June 7 following a report of welfare concerns, according to a Wednesday statement from New South Wales.
“Despite extensive investigations, detectives were unable to determine how the women died,” the statement said. “However, the women are believed to have been dead for some time before they were located.”
The sisters arrived in Australia from Saudi Arabia in 2017, New South Wales police confirmed to CNN . “The circumstances of their death were unusual because they have no signs of injury,” police said.
Police Inspector Claudia Allcroft said any information from the public could be key to resolving the investigation.
“Detectives are interested in speaking with anyone who may have seen or who may have information about the women’s movements in the days and weeks leading up to her death – which we believe took place in early May,” Allcroft said in the statement from the australian police.
In a statement posted on Twitter, the Saudi consulate in Sydney said it was in contact with Australian authorities about the case. “The Consulate also expresses its sincere condolences to the family of the deceased,” he said.
THE CNN contacted the Saudi Arabian Embassy in Canberra for comment.
