Police investigate drug traffickers monitoring center in Rio favela

The Civil Police are investigating the existence of a monitoring center set up by drug traffickers to monitor residents and monitor the activities of rival factions and even security forces in Complexo de Israel, in the north of Rio de Janeiro. At the location, five cameras, which would have been installed by criminals on poles, were seized during an action last Monday afternoon (8).

According to information provided by Hotline, the installation of the cameras was determined by drug dealer Álvaro Malaquias Santa Rosa. Known as Peixão, he would command drug trafficking in five locations in the Complex: Vigário Geral, Parada de Lucas, Cidade Alta, Cinco Bocas and Pica-pau.

“The suspicion [da constituição dessa central de monitoramento] is based on data and reports that report this practice by drug trafficker Peixão. The investigations continue with the objective of confirming this supposed monitoring center, as well as identifying the people who provide this technical and logistical support to the drug trafficker Peixão”, explained delegate Flávio Rodrigues.

Two men, identified as Robert Lucas Lima Barbosa and Edson dos Santos Berrando Junior, were arrested in the act for association with drug trafficking, in a joint action with the Military Police. They would be informants for the criminal organization.

Edson was arrested while installing a camera on a pole. He was on top of a ladder. Robert helped with the service. To the police, the two told that they were activating the equipment on orders from a company located within the Parada de Lucas Community.
