British police announced today that they are launching an investigation into a cyber-attack after passengers at the country’s major train stations saw an Islamophobic message when trying to use Wi-Fi services. The Wi-Fi system, which is operated by communications group Telent, was quickly shut down after passengers reported seeing a message referring to terrorist attacks. “We received reports at approximately 5:03pm yesterday (September 25) of a cyber attack with Islamophobic messages appearing on some of Network Railservices’ Wi-Fi services,” British Transport Police said.
