Police investigate racist act at samba event in Rio

The Rio de Janeiro Civil Police are investigating a couple who made racist gestures during a samba event last Friday (19). The situation was filmed and the video went viral on social media.

The incident was reported to the Racial Crimes and Intolerance Crimes Police Station (Decradi). According to the Civil Police, witnesses are already being heard and the case is under investigation to identify and summon the suspects to appear at the police station and provide statements.

Musician Wanderson Luna, co-founder of PedeTeresa, the event where the incident occurred, said he became aware of the situation the following day. According to him, in conversations with the security guards who worked at the venue, it was confirmed that the acts in the video were not the only incident that took place that night.

“We knew about the couple, the Argentine and the Brazilian, but they (the security guards) said no. When it was time to leave, there were other Argentines, including one who stopped in front of the security guard, made a monkey gesture and left,” said Luna.
