Police investigate stretcher bearer accused of sexual abuse against patient inside hospital in RJ

A stretcher bearer at the Souza Aguiar Municipal Hospital, in the center of Rio de Janeiro, is being investigated by the Civil Police for sexual abuse of a patient, inside the health unit’s elevator.

“I took over this unit, more or less, 15 days ago. When I found out about this investigation, I already tried to obtain the images (from the hospital’s internal circuit), identify the stretcher-bearer and summon him to testify. I have to listen to him, listen to witnesses, the victim himself, in addition to other steps”, he told CNN delegate Mário Jorge Ribeiro de Andrade, responsible for the investigation.

According to the victim’s first report to the Civil Police, she was at a party with her boyfriend and other friends, in Lapa, on September 24, when she fell ill and fell in the street. An ambulance took the girl to the hospital. There, she was seen by the doctor, who asked for a tomography exam.

According to the girl’s testimony, when the stretcher-bearer went to take the patient to the exam room, the professional was going up and down with her in the elevator. At that moment, according to the victim, the man put his hand on her private parts.

In a statement, the health unit’s administration reported that it removed and fired the employee immediately after the complaint and that it is contributing to the authorities. “The administration of the Souza Aguiar Hospital Complex strongly repudiates the act committed within the hospital premises, and is available to the patient and family for any clarifications”, concludes the text.
