The Rio de Janeiro Civil Police are investigating the death of Danielly Rocha, a trans woman found dead on Saturday (3/05) in the hallway of the building where she lived, in Rua do Riachuelo, in the neighborhood of Lapa, central region of the city. According to witnesses, the victim was accompanied by a man, moments before being found lifeless. The circumstances of death have not yet been clarified.
The case was registered at the 5th Police Station (Mem de Sá), which reported that agents are analyzing images of local security cameras and performing steps to investigate what happened.
Dany, as he was known, was a cook formed by the Gastromotiva NGO, where he completed the Basic Kitchen Training course in 2023. She also worked on social projects. In a note, the gastromotive deeply lamented the death of the former student, highlighting his trajectory of resistance, affection and social transformation through gastronomy.
“Danny was a trans, dreamy woman and a tireless professional who believed in the kitchen as a tool for transformation – as we believe. Her brutal departure, once again, the violence that insists on reaping trans lives in Brazil,” said the NGO.
Casa Nem, an organization that welcomes LGBTQIAPN+people, has also spoken out on social networks. The note recalls Danielly’s life story and her close relationship with NGO founder Indianarae Siqueira. They shared a home in Copacabana for years, where they worked together in trans militancy and took care of an adopted dog. According to the institution, Danielly had been welcomed again by the house not even in recent years, where she resumed her training in gastronomy and entrepreneurship.
“He was loved in Copacabana, Lapa, the house not even and where he went. Danny will miss. But in his memory, we will continue to fight. Fighting that the circumstances of his death are investigated. From mourning to fight,” says the text of the house Nem.
