A task force composed of the Specialized Action Group to Combat Organized Crime (GAECO/MPRJ) and the Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro arrested, on the morning of this Tuesday (7), a lawyer and a civil police officer appointed as informants of the Zinho's militia.
The lawyer was arrested in Jacarepaguá, in the west zone of the capital, and the civil police officer was located in Tijuca, a neighborhood in the north zone.
The action was called Operation Leaks. In addition to the two arrest warrants, three search and seizure warrants are being executed at addresses linked to those accused. All were issued by the 1st Criminal Court Specializing in Criminal Organizations in the Capital.
According to the task force, the civil police officer extracted confidential information from the state's Civil Police database and passed it on to the lawyer. The information obtained was related to the militiamen who are part of the group led by Luiz Antônio da Silva Braga, known as Zinho, who have been arrested since December last year. Such crimes would have been committed between September 2020 and July 2022.
According to investigations, criminals would have made at least 19 inquiries on behalf of militia members in the Rio de Janeiro police system.
In a note, the MPRJ reported that “GAECO reported the public agent and the lawyer to court for actively contributing to the maintenance of the paramilitary organization called 'Bonde do Zinho' and violating functional secrecy”.
