Police officer arrested for exchanging rifles with criminals in Rio de Janeiro

The Rio de Janeiro Police Pacification Coordination Command is investigating a police officer from the UPP Adeus-Baiana, in Penha, north of Rio de Janeiro, for having exchanged a rifle belonging to the corporation for a weapon with the serial number filed off.

According to the press office of the State Secretariat of Military Police, the officer tried to return the weapon with the serial number scratched off to the department at the end of the shift on Tuesday (3).

Upon handing over the rifle, the agent was arrested and revealed that he had negotiated the weapon with criminals from the Boogie Woogie community, Ilha do Governador, north of Rio de Janeiro.

After the confession, officers from the 1st Area Police Command (1st CPA) and the 17th Battalion carried out an emergency action to recover the rifle.

The officer will be sent to the Corporation’s prison unit in NiterĂ³i, in the metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro. The internal affairs department said it is monitoring the case.
