Police officer suspected of killing advisor has preventive detention ordered

The suspect of killing parliamentary advisor Marcelo dos Anjos Abitan da Silva, aged 49, on the edge of Barra da Tijuca, was identified by the police as Raphael Ferreira, a civil police officer. After analyzing security cameras and examining the location, the suspect was located.

The court ordered Raphael’s temporary arrest for the crime, which took place in the early hours of this Sunday (19), on Avenida Lúcio Costa, in the west zone of Rio de Janeiro, after an alleged disagreement in traffic.

According to reports, the victim was returning to a hotel where he was staying, when he honked at a car that was in the driveway. That’s when a man got out of the car, shot Marcelo five times and fled.

Witnesses reported that Marcelo was experiencing a very happy moment with his family, as he celebrated that his son had passed the entrance exam to attend medical school.

In a statement, the suspect’s lawyer, Saulo Carvalho, states that Raphael provided due assistance to the victim and made himself available to the authorities to clarify the facts.
