The Military Police sergeant, who shot his ex-father-in-law to death after being reported for threats, was arrested on Tuesday (10), when he turned himself in to the police in Belém do São Francisco, Sertão de Pernambuco.
The crime occurred on the night of last Saturday (7). According to the State Military Police, the suspect fled the scene immediately after the action and was on the run. The murder weapon, a 9 mm caliber pistol, was seized and will be subjected to expert analysis.
The victim, a 47-year-old self-employed driver, was shot six times. In a video circulating on social media, it is possible to see the moment when the police officer runs after the man and shoots the victim six times.
According to family members who witnessed the crime, the man was killed after filing a complaint against the soldier at the police station. The officer allegedly invaded the victim’s farm and threatened him with gunshots during an argument that occurred hours before the crime.
According to witnesses, the disagreement between the two occurred because the victim did not agree with the police officer’s relationship with one of her daughters.
The man was shot in the stomach, back and shoulders. The victim was taken to a health unit in the municipality and then transferred to a hospital in Salgueiro, also in the backlands of the state, but did not survive his injuries.
Investigation
THE CNN the Civil Police of Pernambuco reported that, through the Police Station of Belém do São Francisco, it served an arrest warrant, after the accused of homicide appeared, accompanied by lawyers, at the Police Station of Serra Talhada.
The document was issued on September 8, 2024, against a PMPE sergeant, accused of homicide in the city of Belém de São Francisco. The PM is in custody at the 14th BPM, in Serra Talhada, where he will await the custody hearing.
As he was a PM, the General Inspectorate of the Secretariat of Social Defense of Pernambuco (SDS-PE), aware of the occurrence, instituted disciplinary proceedings against the soldier.
