Police officers are reported for demanding bribes; billing was done via WhatsApp

The Military Justice Prosecutor’s Office of the State of São Paulo denounced two military police officers for procedural fraud and demanding undue advantage (concussion), during a police approach. The case took place in September this year, in the city of Caieiras (SP), and according to the prosecutor’s office, the police made charges via WhatsApp.

The action took place during an approach, which according to the two police officers, was carried out because the vehicle was linked to an incident of fraud. With this justification, the two agents allegedly intimidated the car driver. During the actions, the two agents turned off the body cameras that are attached to their uniforms.

“It is in the record that, during the approach, to facilitate the criminal practice, the accused removed their identification cards, as well as the Portable Operational Cameras they carried in their uniforms, leaving them in a position that prevented any type of filming. Thus, they changed the state of affairs to harm the investigation and mislead the judge.”says the complaint.

According to the prosecutor’s office, the police took possession of a man’s property during an approach carried out in the municipality of Caieiras, Greater São Paulo region. The agents allegedly stole a luxury watch that was on the driver’s wrist, valued at R$5,000, in addition to R$1,600 in cash, which was in the victim’s backpack.

According to the complaint, one of the police officers even demanded the amount of R$20,000 to release the man, after accessing the victim’s conversations and banking applications, who maintained that he was unable to pay this amount. Subsequently, both PMs began sending messages to the man via WhatsApp, demanding to receive a bribe and heading to the vicinity of his residence.
