Police points homicide in case of indigenous people found charred in MS

Investigation of the Civil Police of Mato Grosso do Sul (PCMS) points out that the three indigenous people found charred after a fire in the Bororó village in the Dourados region (MS) at dawn on Monday (31) would have been victims of murder.

The corporation reported that the victims are 38 -year -old Fabiana Benites Amarilha; an elderly person initially identified as Liria Isnard Batista; and a one -year -old child.

The suspicion of authorship of the crime is a 29 -year -old woman who would have invaded a property in the area of Indigenous Resumption Avaeté Mirim, and a “blunt blow” against the elderly woman with a piece of concrete. She would have asphyxiated the baby, while the third victim, Fabiana slept and then burned down the house, with the help of a flammable liquid.

The woman suffered burns by fleeing the scene, which eventually revealed her participation to the investigators. “During the investigation, the Civil Police was able to identify a woman with obvious signs of recent burns, compatible with the temporal lapse where the crime would have occurred. The injuries were analyzed by the coroner and reinforced the evidence of their participation in the criminal event,” PCMS said in a statement.

Witnesses also helped elucidate the crime and corroborated the police version. The village is in a claimed area and suffers from historical conflicts with rural landowners. However, there is no evidence that the crime may have motivation in the dispute for the land.

A team from the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples (MPI) was sent to the scene to assist in the case and called the Ministry of Justice and the Federal Police in Mato Grosso do Sul “to request the investigation of the crime under the constant threats, territorial violations and acts of violence suffered by Guarani Kaiowá”.
