Police rescue North American held in private prison in Rio and arrest suspect

A 40-year-old North American man was located by police officers from the Anti-Kidnapping Police Station (DAS) after a report that he was being held in private prison through extortion for two days, in Copacabana, in the South Zone of Rio.

In a statement, the Civil Police confirmed the information and declared that agents arrested, last Saturday (9), a man accused of extortion with restriction of freedom.

The action occurred after Brazilian authorities were notified by the US Consulate and the FBI that a US citizen was incommunicado and missing.

In a period of just under six hours, the victim was found at Rio de Janeiro International Airport.

Soon afterwards, the agents also identified and arrested Lucas de Jesus Ferreira, the main suspect in the crime.

In testimony, Joseph Longo told the police that he was held in private prison for 2 days, while the criminals attacked and threatened him, demanding bank transfers be made for his release.
