The Civil Police of São Paulo investigates a hit-and-run in the city of Santa Cruz do Rio Prado, in the interior of the state, which would have been committed by a priest against a suspect of committing thefts in the church.
The hit-and-run, which took place last Saturday (7), was captured by security cameras, which show the moment when the car is deliberately thrown against a man who was passing on the sidewalk.
The suspect in the hit-and-run is Father Gustavo Trindade dos Santos. According to the police, the man who was run over committed theft in the parish of Santa Cruz do Rio Pardo on the same day. He stole bags of clothes that were collected by the church for a bazaar. The clothes were found with him after the hit-and-run.
Two days earlier, another theft had taken place in the church, but there is no confirmation that it was the same author. The car used by the priest in the hit-and-run belongs to the Diocese of Ourinhos and was found on Monday (9) in the city, but the priest has not yet been located.
The man who was run over was arrested in the act for the theft and remains under police school hospitalized in the Santa Casa of the city. Witnesses who saw the hit-and-run have already given testimonies and the steps are proceeding to locate the priest.
The Diocese of Ourinhos said, in a statement, that it is following the case regarding the Parish of São Sebastião de Santa Cruz do Rio Pardo, where the priest would act. “The facts are being investigated and appropriate measures will be taken”, he adds.
The case was registered at the 1st Police Department of Ourinhos and is investigated at the 1st DP of Santa Cruz do Rio Pardo.
