Police seize a ton of marijuana at a municipal school in RJ

The Military Police of Rio de Janeiro seized around a ton of drugs at a municipal school, located in Complexo da Maré, in the northern part of the state, this Sunday (25).

According to the police team, the seizure took place during an action against drug trafficking in the Nova Holanda community and had the help of sniffer dogs.

During the operation, the dogs, which are specialized in locating weapons and drugs, demonstrated a change in behavior, which indicated the presence of narcotics in the external area of the school, where military agents located and seized around 250 tablets of marijuana.

When questioned, the Municipal Department of Education reported that the suspects entered the school grounds and hid the drugs inside the air ducts, located in the external area of the unit.

The department stated that the action took place over the weekend, when the school was already closed and there were no employees present on site.

In a statement, the secretariat clarified that it deeply repudiates the fact that a space that should be sacred has been chosen as a target for criminals.

Over the past week, schools have been affected by operations in the region. According to the department, between last Monday (19) and Wednesday (21), a total of 24 schools in Maré were closed. On Thursday (22) and Friday (23), the schools reopened at different times.
