The Civil Police and Federal Highway Police seized a large amount of ammunition in a forested area on the border between the state capital and the city of Itaguaí, in the Metropolitan Region of Rio, this Friday (28).
According to the agents, drones with a thermal camera and sniffer dogs were used to assist the teams in the search for the “tens of thousands” of ammunition, cases and equipment for reloading.
The action was another development of Operation Saigon, carried out jointly by the Specialized Police Station in Weapons, Ammunition and Explosives (DESARME) and the PRF Special Operations Command (COE) against criminal organizations and in the fight against illegal arms trade.
In all, 55 firearms have already been seized, including 27 rifles seized in Grajaú, North Zone of Rio, belonging to Vitor Furtado Rebollal Lopes, arrested on Monday (24), on Highway GO-070, in Goiânia, transporting about of 11,000 rifle ammunition of two different calibers.
Also according to the investigation, after the criminal’s arrest, members of the criminal organization began to determine that the material should be hidden. The police try to identify those involved and look for other hiding places used by the group.
