Police seize two tons of deteriorated meat and investigate fraud

The Civil Police of the Consumer Delegation (Decon) seized two tons of meat unfit for consumption in a supermarket located in the Gramacho neighborhood, in Duque de Caxias, in Baixada Fluminense (RJ).

The case happened this morning, one day after another seizure, of 800 tons of rotting meat resulting from the floods in Rio Grande do Sul, in May last year.

The operation was carried out after complaints about the sale of spoiled food products in the unit.

The case took place in a supermarket belonging to a chain with several branches in the state of Rio de Janeiro. During the approach, two managers of the establishment managed to escape and the employees were taken to the police station to give statements.

The police are also investigating whether the seized products are linked to the meat that was submerged during the flood in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, in May 2024.

According to the police, “an investigation was launched to investigate the responsibility of the managers”, who will be indicted for adulteration of food products, criminal association and for selling or storing merchandise unfit for consumption.

In addition to the seizure of the meat, the supermarket was closed until the legal issues were resolved.
