Police serve eight arrest warrants in operation against fake auction scam

The civil police of Minas Gerais (PCMG), Santa Catarina (PCSC) and São Paulo (PCESP), with support from the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP), carried out a joint action this Wednesday (27/9) to comply eight preventive arrest warrants and 12 search and seizure warrants in the states of Minas Gerais and São Paulo.

The operation, called Lance Improbável, combats fraud crimes carried out through fake vehicle auction websites. According to investigations, hundreds of victims were injured across the country. The operation also resulted in the blocking and seizure of assets totaling approximately R$5 million.

In Belo Horizonte, four men and one woman were arrested, in addition to the execution of seven search and seizure warrants, and four luxury vehicles valued at approximately R$1 million were collected.

Investigations showed that more than 30 fraudulent websites were used to carry out the scams. Those arrested will face charges of criminal association, embezzlement and money laundering.

In Minas, the surveys were conducted by the Specialized Division for Combating Corruption, Fraud Investigation and Crimes Against the Tax Order of the State Department for Combating Corruption and Fraud (Deccof).
