Polio vaccination campaign ends this Friday (30)

The national campaign vaccination against poliomyelitis and multi-vaccination ends next Friday (30). The proposal is to strengthen vaccination coverage against polio and other preventable diseases, in addition to avoiding the reintroduction of viruses that have already been eliminated from the country.

The campaign was even extended by the Ministry of Health due to low adherence. The doses are available at more than 40,000 vaccination points. The goal of the folder is to immunize 95% of the target audience against polio, made up of 14.3 million children under 5 years old. So far, vaccination coverage for children is at 52%, according to data from the ministry’s LocalizaSUS platform.

Children aged 1 to 4 years should receive one dose of Oral Poliomyelitis Vaccine (OPV), provided they have already received the three doses of Inactivated Poliomyelitis Vaccine (VIP) provided for in the basic schedule. Until last Saturday (24), 6 million doses against polio had been applied during the campaign.

multivaccination

For the multi-vaccination campaign, the doses available are: hepatitis A and B, Penta (DTP/Hib/Hep B), Pneumococcal 10 valent, HRV (Human Rotavirus Vaccine), Meningococcal C (conjugated), yellow fever, MMR (measles , rubella, mumps), Tetraviral (measles, rubella, mumps, chickenpox), DTP (triple bacterial), chickenpox and quadrivalent HPV (Human Papillomavirus).

Among adolescents aged up to 15 years, HPV, dT (adult double), yellow fever, MMR, Hepatitis B, dTpa and Meningococcal ACWY (conjugate) vaccines are available. The ministry reinforces that all immunizers that are part of the National Immunization Program (PNI) are safe and were approved by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa).

Covid-19

The National Vaccination Campaign against Poliomyelitis and Multivaccination coincides with the immunization against covid-19, already underway in the country. According to the folder, vaccines against Covid-19 can be administered, in children from 3 years of age, simultaneously or with any interval with the other vaccines that are part of the national calendar.

“Updating the vaccine situation increases protection against vaccine-preventable diseases, preventing the occurrence of outbreaks and hospitalizations, sequelae, rehabilitation treatments and deaths”, reinforced the ministry.
