Polish Prime Minister for Belarus: ‘EU-wide security’ threatened

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said today that the migrant crisis on Belarus’ borders threatens “the stability and security of the entire EU”.

“Sealing the Polish border is in our national interest. But today the stability and security of the whole EU is at stake,” the Polish prime minister wrote on Twitter.

“This hybrid attack by the regime (of Belarusian President Alexander) Lukashenko is aimed at all of us. We will not let it intimidate us and we will defend peace in Europe together with our NATO and EU partners,” he added.

Belarus, for its part, today denounced Warsaw’s “baseless” allegations that Minsk was behind attempts by thousands of migrants to cross the Polish border illegally.

“The Belarusian Defense Ministry considers the accusations of the Polish side unfounded and unjustified,” the ministry said in a statement, accusing Poland of “deliberately” increasing tensions.

“The Polish Ministry of Defense is not looking for a constructive solution to the issue and is deliberately bringing the current conflict situation to a political level,” Minsk said.

According to Interior Minister Ivan Kubrakov, quoted by the state-run Belarusian news agency Belta, the migrants, who come mainly from the Middle East, are “legally” on Belarusian soil and there is “no violation of the law” on their part. .

Belarus also warned Poland today against any “provocation” on the border between the two countries.

Belarus today “warns the Polish side not to use any provocation” against Belarus “to justify possible illegal warfare” against the immigrants, “the Belarusian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Minsk denounced “Warsaw’s long-standing contempt for objective reality and approaches worthy of its ostrich policy for resolving serious problems”, as well as Poland’s “unsuccessful attempts” to “blame” Belarus for migration crisis at the border.
