Political deadlock continues in the US: Sixth vote in the House of Representatives without a positive result

For the third time today and sixth in a row since yesterday, the House of Representatives failed to elect its new president, as 20 Republicans “rebels» refuse to support the party’s candidate, Kevin McCarthy.

The results on three votes today were identical: McCarthy received only 201 votes, out of the 218 he needed. Twenty Republicans they voted for Byron Donalds, a Florida congressman up for first term in 2020, and one refrained from endorsing either.

And the 212 Democrats voted for their leader, Hakeem Jeffries.

“I think that the road now is very difficult for kevinDonald commented after the second vote, speaking to the Fox News television network and relayed by the Athens News Agency.

McCarthy’s opponents warn that the “battle” for the leadership could last a long time. “It’s worth losing a few days or a few weeks to have the best possible president.”said one of the “rebels,” Bob Goode.
