Following allegations of rape in parliament, the Australian political scene is shocked once again. A series of videos have now been leaked showing members of parliament having sex inside the building. Their leak resulted in the dismissal of an official.
A video shows an assistant having sex on the desk of an Australian MP, according to the BBC. Prime Minister Scott Morrisan called the videos “obscene.”
The videos in question leaked to her media Australia by a former government official, who said he had developed “immunity” to the images because of what he saw.
In addition to the videos – recorded two years ago, he said some people used the prayer hall to have sex, and even brought sex workers into parliament.
The informant described a “culture of men who think they can do whatever they want”, describing some of his colleagues as “morally bankrupt”.
The reactions
THE Scott Morrison he told reporters “shocked” and added: “There must be order in Parliament. “We have to put politics aside in these things, recognize the problem and fix it.”
He has been criticized for his reaction, as well as for refusing to meet with protesters last week. Morrison invited the protest leaders to meet him in parliament, but they refused, saying they did not want to meet him “behind closed doors”.
Questions about the government’s handling of the crisis were raised again when MP Michel Landry said she “regretted” the dismissal.
But Secretary of State Karen Andrews said “her conscience will no longer allow her to remain silent” about sexism in Australian politics. At the same time, he called for consideration to be given to imposing gender quotas on government representatives.
