The executive power of the European Union has called on Member States to help improve the efficiency of water use across the EU by at least 10% by 2030, as the Union is preparing for the increasingly intense impact of climate change. According to Politico, the objective – which is not legally binding – is part of the European water resistance strategy, which was published Wednesday and aims to restore the water cycle that has been “deeply affected” by pollution, climate change and environmental degradation. In a separate recommendation, the European Commission encourages EU Member States to “define their own objectives for efficiency in water use, based on their national conditions”.
