Politico: Policy via Whatsapp in Brussels – even ‘pfizergate’ won’t stop it

Forget the full tobacco hidden rooms of the EU Glory era. Forget the whispering conversations in busy Brussels bars. Even forget about the Finnish saunas that the northern diplomats love. Today, politics is mainly carried out through WhatsApp. The recent bomb decision on the “Pfizergate” case, issued on Wednesday, signals that, at least theoretically, we should have much more access to the messages of officials and policies. Who would have returned to the 1980s? “How else would it happen?” An EU official told Politico through WhatsApp, obviously. The EU General Court ruled that the Commission was unfair to refuse journalists to access the messages exchanged by European Commission President Ursula von der Lien, and Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla at the peak of Covid-19.
