Poll: Germans overwhelmingly in favor of stricter restrictions and compulsory vaccination

The vast majority of Germans are dissatisfied with the management of the caretaker government and the states at this stage of the pandemic and are calling for even stricter restraint measures, with a correspondingly high percentage in favor of a general vaccination requirement.

According to the “DeutschlandTrend” poll on behalf of the first channel of the German public television ARD, 79% of the respondents express more or less dissatisfaction with the management of the crisis, while it is indicative that with the actions of the Minister of Health Jens Span only expressed satisfaction 26%, when in September the corresponding percentage reached 37%. In addition, in the corresponding period last year, without vaccines and with prolonged lockdown, 56% of the citizens were dissatisfied. The dissatisfaction at the moment concerns the fact that the government does not take “sufficiently strict” measures to reduce the pandemic, as 60% state. 27% believe that retail should be closed and 33% that schools should be closed, 64% ask that bars and taverns be closed and 57% that the Christmas markets be closed. 81% request the conduct of football matches without spectators.

71% of citizens, however, are in favor of introducing the general obligation to vaccinate adults. The corresponding percentage in November reached 57%. The biggest concern of the people around the pandemic is the fact that the elderly are more seriously ill when they become infected with coronavirus and the possibility that it is not possible to properly treat all patients with Covid-19.

In terms of blaming the oligarchs for managing the fourth wave of the pandemic, 49% blame the outgoing Christian Democrats (CDU) and Social Democrats (SPD), 29% blame the state governments, and 29% 10% “shows” the next governing coalition, SPD – Greens – Liberals (FDP). At the same time, only 45% of respondents estimate that the Program Agreement between the new government partners gives “correct answers to the problems of the future”, a percentage lower than the total strength of the three parties. The FDP is considered the winner of the negotiations for the formation of a coalition government by 37%, followed by the SPD with 32% and the Greens with 13%.

In the question of voting intention, the SPD loses two points in relation to the result of the elections of September 26 and is at 25%, while the FDP loses one point and falls to 12%. On the contrary, the Greens strengthen by one point and rise to 17%. On the other hand, the Christian Union (CDU / CSU) wins two points and reaches 23%. The Alternative for Germany (AfD) wins one point and is in 5th place with 11% and the percentages of the Left appear unchanged, with 5%.

In terms of the popularity of the political staff, the outgoing Chancellor remains first with 68% positive views (-1), followed by her successor, Olaf Solz with 51% (-7), the Prime Minister of Bavaria Markus Zender with 45% (-2), The next Vice Chancellor from the Greens, Robert Hubbek, with 42% unchanged, the FDP leader Christian Lindner with 38% (-6) and the co-chair of the Greens and future Foreign Minister Analena Berbok with 29% (-1).
