Poll triumph for Ankara mayor: Yavas-Erdogan difference at 22 points

A few days ago we were talking about opinion polls of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, by the mayors of Istanbul and Ankara. After the latest MetroPOLL investigation, we can talk about Erdogan’s catastrophe, or even the Ankara mayor’s popular triumph.

If two Republican People’s Party (CHP) candidates face off in the election, Ankara’s popular mayor Mansur Yavas, who has won the hearts of the people for his fight against the deep-rooted Erdogan state in the Turkish capital, will , 4% of the vote against 32.2% of Erdogan. On the other hand, the mayor of Istanbul, equally popular, Ekrem Imamoglu, would win over Erdogan, with his percentages being 48.7% against 36.6%, according to the survey.

While the opposition has not announced its candidate for the elections to be held in June 2023, the two mayors and the leader of the CHP, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, are portrayed as potential candidates.

Throughout the year, Imamoglu and Yavas are ahead of Erdogan in most polls.

Nevertheless Kilicdaroglu, having a unique opportunity to become president of Turkey and become the one who “will restore parliamentary democracy in Turkey”, is not very easy to do back.

Parliamentary Elections

In the poll for the parliamentary elections, Erdogan’s Justice and Development Party (AKP) maintains the lead with 26.2% of the vote, the poll showed.

The ruling party is followed by the CHP (21.4%) and the Good Party (İYİ) (10.9%), which form the Nation Alliance.

The AKP’s ally in the People’s Alliance, the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), led by Gray Wolves leader Devlet Bahceli, received only 4.2% of the vote, meaning the opposition bloc is now 32 ahead of the ruling coalition. 3% vs. 30.4%.

The Kurdish People’s Democratic Party (HDP), which focuses on the Kurdish issue, receives 9.1% of the vote, according to the poll. According to analysts and experts on the Turkish elections, everything will be judged by the attitude of the HDP leadership and whether it will cooperate with the Kemalist-Aksener alliance. If it does, then the defeat for the Erdogan-Bahceli coalition is considered almost certain.

With declining support for Erdogan and his party, opposition parties are calling for early elections, with the Turkish president insisting the election be held as scheduled.
