Pompeii limits number of visitors to control mass tourism

  • From 12pm to 5:30pm: maximum 5,000 entries; 3 thousand for regular tickets and 2 thousand for tickets that include suburban villages.

Since July 2023, a Trenitalia high-speed train runs directly between Rome and Pompeii. Departures take place on Sundays, departing at 8:53 am from Roma Termini and arriving at Pompeii station at 10:40 am. The return journey takes place at night, leaving Pompeii at 6:40 pm and arriving in Rome Termini at 8:55 pm.

During the week, the most common route between the two destinations requires a train change at Napoli Centrale station, in Naples. In certain cases, it is necessary to stop at the central station and walk to another station, Napoli Piazza Garibaldi, to then take a metropolitan train to Pompeii.
