Ponte Morandi and compensation: “The death of my son is priceless”

The August 14, 2018 Giovanni crossed the Morandi Bridge by car with his friends to go on vacation. But for all of them it was the last trip.

Giovanni, 29 year old videomaker from Torre del Greco, is one of the 43 victims of the collapse of the Morandi Bridge and, since that day, his father Roberto Battiloro asks only and exclusively justice for him.

«My son’s life is priceless, I want truth and justice firstSays Battiloro, who has returned to Genoa to start the second probative incident in the context of the disaster proceedings.

He doesn’t want money, he doesn’t want any financial compensation. The million euros he was offered refused him. No amount is worth the pain of losing a child.

In an interview he says: «I would not have accepted even 10 million because I don’t want refreshments. This is not a Superenalotto. No, first of all the truth must come out. I hope that my renunciation contributes to having a true judgment ».

Ponte Morandi, the prosecutor: “It won’t be another Viareggio”

«Do everything possible so that it doesn’t end up like in Viareggio? Of course yes”. Prosecutor Cozzi, who is in charge of the investigation into the collapse of August 14, says this.

Yesterday, 2 February in Genoa, in the tensile structure created ad hoc to comply with the anti Covid regulations within the Court of Genoa, a new fundamental chapter has begun to shed light on the causes of the collapse of the Morandi bridge.

“For me it is almost obvious to repeat it and in some respects reductive, even if that investigation diverged for some essential technical issues” he adds. And he reiterates: “I want to remind you that in Genoa the trials for culpable disasters have never ended in prescription ».
