Taking care of the environment is a constant concern of the Pope Francis so much so that on several occasions he called for “care for the common home” and the appreciation of the place where we live.
Now, the pope has made an unusual appeal to young people to reduce their consumption of meat to take care of environment reported the Catholic Information Agency (ACI Prensa).
“It is urgent to reduce consumption not only of fossil fuels, but also of so many superfluous things,” Pope Francis said at the European Union Youth Conference on 11 July.
“In some areas of the world, too, it would be convenient to consume less meat: this can also contribute to saving the environment,” added the pontiff.
In addition, the pope encouraged young people not to be “seduced by the mermaids who propose a life of luxury reserved for a small portion of the world”, and to aspire to a life “dignified and sober, without luxuries or waste”.
During an interview published on July 1 in the Argentine news agency Télam, the Pope highlighted the importance of taking care of the environment: “There are people who cannot imagine the danger that humanity is facing today with this overheating and handling of nature. ”.
Pope Francis’ health and rumors about his resignation
Pope Francis has firmly denied rumors of a possible resignation due to health problems in an interview with Reuters published on Monday (11).
In a hypothetical case of his resignation, Francis ruled out staying and living in the Vatican or returning to Argentina, as he said that, in that case, he would be the bishop emeritus of Rome, and opened the possibility of living in the Pontifical Basilica of San Juan de Lateran, the Rome Cathedral.
In this context, he assured that he would like to dedicate himself to confession in a Church, revealed the pontiff in an interview with Univision.
However, the pope ruled out, in several interviews this week, resigning from his post.
“It didn’t cross my mind, it never even crossed my mind. At the moment, no, but the time will come when I’ll see that I can’t do it [o trabalho]. [Nesse caso]I will go [renunciar]. The great example of Pope Benedict XVI was a very good thing for the Church,” Pope Francis told Reuters.
And in an interview with Televisa, he said that “at the moment” he did not consider resigning from the pontificate.
“I really don’t feel that the Lord is asking me that right now,” Francis said of a possible resignation. “When I feel that the Lord is asking me, yes.”
Pope Francis has long suffered from pain in one of his knees, and it scared him “in the sense of ‘thinking a little about what his future will be like now’”.
He clarified, however, that he has improved and can now walk, highlighted ACI Prensa.
