A meeting full of joy. Before the general audience today 7 December, Pope Francis met Roberto Benigni in the Paul VI hall at the VaticanOscar-winning actor and director for the unforgettable film Life is Beautiful.
This was announced on the Twitter profile of Vatican News. The photo taken during the conversation between Benigni and the Pope puts us in a good mood: the smiles of both are radiant, their arms ready to embrace. Last Easter Pope Bergoglio had told the Gospels on Rai 1 with Benigni. As for the Tuscan actor, who turned 70 in October, he has publicly paid homage to the Pope on more than one occasion, expressing his gratitude for the humanity of Pope Francis.
Think that in 2016 Roberto Benigni was called to the Vatican to present the volume God’s name is Mercy by Pope Francis. On that occasion, the Tuscan comedian said he was thrilled to be “in the smallest state in the world with the biggest man in the world”.
