Pope Francis exalts natural beauty in meeting with plastic surgeons

Pope Francis praised the natural beauty that has not been aesthetically improved when he met with plastic surgeons during an audience held this Thursday (23) at the Vatican.

“I welcome you with a smile on my lips, natural, not remodeled!”, said the pope when addressing the members of the Association of Former Students of Professor Ivo Pitanguy (AEXPI).

Pitanguy contributed to the global spread of plastic surgery for reconstructive purposes and also to meet the desires of the rich and famous, before he died in 2016.

Speaking in Spanish, the pope thanked members of the association for trying to “bring a smile to the faces” of many children suffering from plastic reconstruction surgery.

Francis praised beauty that is not subject to “the planned trends of the fashion business, the culture business, the culture of appearances, but which is linked to the truth of humanity, to its most intimate being, which we cannot disfigure.”

“Our faces are destined to reflect a beauty that goes beyond what is perceived with the eyes of the body”, said the pontiff to the surgeons who were in Rome to participate in the AEXPI congress.

The conference “When Science Meets Beauty” will be held in Rome, from May 24th to 25th.
