Pope Francis’ funeral can start on Wednesday (23), says Vatican

Pope Francis’ body can be veiled in St. Peter’s Basilica so that people can pay their honors on Wednesday (23), announced a Vatican spokesman on Monday (21).

“The transfer of the body of the Holy Father to the Vatican Basilica for the tribute of all the faithful could occur on Wednesday morning,” said Matteo Bruni, director of the Holy See Press Room.

The pontiff’s suffrage mass will take place in the São João de Latron Basilica in Rome, at 14h of Brasilia, 7 pm local time, and will be held by Cardinal Baldo Reina.

During the pontiff’s death rite, more details should be informed, as if the Pope was sleeping, when he died, etc.

Pope Francis’ body will be placed in a coffin at 15h of Brasilia, 8 pm, the Holy See said in a statement.

Kevin Joseph Farrell, cardinal and also Vatican’s Camerlengo, will preside over the certification of Francis’ death and the placement of his body in the coffin.

The Pontiff’s coffin should be presented on Tuesday morning (22), but the time was not informed.
