THE Pope Francis used today wheelchair for the first time publicly since the reappearance of acute pain in his knee limiting his ability to walk.
In a meeting with a group of nuns in a Vatican auditorium, Francis was taken to his place in the wheelchair, which was pushed by his assistants.
The 85-year-old pope was forced several times last month to cancel obligations of because of pain in his right knee.
Until yesterday he could walk the distance of about ten meters from the side entrance to its place in the center of the room nevertheless assisted.
Several times during Easter last month the pope attended but did not perform services at St. Peter’s Basilica. In each case he appointed an archbishop or cardinal to perform the service, which he attended while sitting, while he delivered his sermon while also sitting.
As he has said, the doctors have informed him that they will give him an injection to help move his ligaments. However, it is not clear whether this treatment has started.
