Pope Francis made his first public appearance in more than five weeks on Sunday, waving a balcony at Gemelli Hospital in Rome before leaving the site.

Francisco, 88, went to the hospital on February 14 with a severe respiratory infection that became the most serious health crisis of his 12 years of papacy.

The Pope’s doctors said on Saturday that he would still take “a long time” so that his aged body would completely recover, and said they prescribed to the pontiff two months of rest in the Vatican.

Francisco appeared on a hospital balcony shortly after noon on Sunday (23). Using a wheelchair, as he did several years ago, the Pope smiled and waved to a group of supporters gathered outside.
