Pope Francis was hospitalized on the morning of Friday (14) to continue the treatment of bronchitis and take exams, the Vatican said in a statement.
“This morning, at the end of his hearings, Pope Francis was admitted to the Polyclinic Agostino Gemelli for some necessary diagnostic tests and to continue their treatment for bronchitis, still in progress, in a hospital environment,” he said.
Last Wednesday (12) the pontiff said he was still suffering from an outbreak of the disease and asked an advisor to read prepared comments for a weekly Vatican audience for the second time in two weeks.
During the meeting Francisco had difficulty breathing during speech.
The leader of the Catholic Church, 88, has been in office since 2013 and has suffered from flu and other health problems several times in the last two years.
Earlier this month, the pontiff told pilgrims in a weekly audience that was suffering from a “strong cold”, which the Vatican later described as bronchitis.
