Pope Francis remembered this Sunday (16) the victims of the rains and floods that hit several regions of Brazil.
The Catholic Church leader prayed especially for the victims and those who lost homes during the storms that hit the country. The pope called for support for the efforts of everyone helping those most affected.
The rains of recent weeks have left dozens of dead across Brazil. In Minas Gerais, 52 thousand people are homeless or displaced.
Impacts in Minas Gerais
A section at km 321 of the BR-381 highway, in the municipality of Nova Era, in Minas Gerais, sank, completely interdicting traffic in the area. According to the National Department of Infrastructure and Transport (DNIT), the displacement of land occurred due to the large volume of water and soil saturation, called “slope shear”, causing the break in the runway.
On Friday, the governor of Minas Gerais, Romeu Zema (Novo), announced R$ 560 million for the reconstruction of cities affected by heavy rains.
“Our Civil Defense is providing support and assistance to the municipalities so that they formalize the technical reports, send the budgets of everything that was damaged so that we can document what happened and access this federal budget”, said the governor.
